Weaving Realities
    Arhuaco
The Project Arhuaco focuses on weaving knowledges with the indigenous Arhuacan communities in Colombia, and together we defend the indigenous territory to protect and nourish the ecosystem.

The mountain range of Santa Marta functions as a microclimate, which is very sensible to small interventions. This mountain range is considered by its inhabitants, “the heart of the earth”. There are four indigenous communities that inhabit the mountain range of Santa Marta in Colombia: Kogui, Kankuamo, Wiwa and Arhuaco. With more than 22,000 members, the Arhuaco are the largest group, but their existence has been under constant threat. The Arhuacan communities have been growing cacao on their lands from time immemorial. Their territories are rich in cultural ancestrality but also inadvertently cursed by the abundance of natural resources, which has led to their expropriation and persecution by the neo-liberal policies of multinationals.
